Band of Builders

About the service and what they offer: Band of Builders is the National Construction Charity providing practical, financial and wellbeing support for members of the UK construction industry and their families who face adversity due to illness, injury or life-changing circumstances.

Band of Builders was born in 2016 when our founder took to social media to ask for help renovating the home of close friend and colleague Keith Ellick who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. The incredible response from tradespeople across the UK saw the project completed and demonstrated what can be achieved when the industry stands together.

From there, Band of Builders was formed and continues to complete further projects across the UK with the value of Together Stronger at its core.

In 2019 the organisation gained charity status in England and Wales and now works formally to help members of the construction industry and their families across the country in their hour of need. Since that first project to help Keith, Band of Builders has completed a wide range of projects with a combined delivery value of over £1m which includes accessible bathrooms and kitchens, wheelchair ramps, cabins and even complete home renovations.

We provide practical, financial and wellbeing support to support members of the construction sector and partner with industry leaders to ensure we can help as many people as possible.

About the service and what they offer: For so long, Child to Parent Abuse has remained in the shadows - with parents struggling for months or even years before reaching out for professional assistance. Sadly, when they have reached out, they've sometimes felt unsupported, blamed, judged and even ignored by services. That's not okay. We think all people experiencing domestic abuse deserve the help they need, when they need it. That's why we aim to be that support system for parents, while also upskilling professionals. There's no easy 'fix-all' solution when it comes to any type of domestic abuse, and CPA is no different. The way forward will be as unique as your family is. But we believe there are some factors which should always be the same, and that's why all our parent services are free to access - to remove any financial barriers to asking for support. We listen to every parent, and give them a safe space in which to share their story. We avoid blame and judgement. And we work as hard as we can to empower our PEGS parents. We've developed a range of virtual services for parents to enable access from anywhere in the UK, alongside training and policy consultancy for organisations looking to recognise Child to Parent Abuse (CPA), improve their responses to it, and support those impacted by this type of abuse.

About the service and what they offer: Young Women’s Trust is a national charity that supports and represents young women trapped on low or no pay in England and Wales. As well as undertaking research and delivering campaigns on the issues faced by young women, we offer direct support to women aged 18-30 through our Work It Out service.

Work It Out provides free, professional coaching online and over the phone. Designed to be accessible and flexible, young women can speak to a coach at times that suit them. Delivered by trained Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) practitioners, Work It Out assists young women to improve their confidence and employability and move forward with their lives.

Young women may wish just to have a single session (perhaps in preparation for a job interview) or a series of sessions to talk about wider issues affecting their confidence or employment prospects. Many young women who use Work It Out have said it was particularly useful in helping them identify their skills, making a plan and taking steps towards work, and that the friendly, personal approach of the coaches made all the difference in boosting their confidence in themselves. Work It Out is designed to be a quick to respond service.  Once a young woman has signed up she’ll hear from a coach within a maximum 2 working days (normally sooner) and coaching sessions can usually be offered the same day if desired.

Everyone’s needs and circumstances are unique. We don’t make assumptions about people, and we won’t try to fit you into something that isn’t right for you. About the service and what they offer: Our national Helpline exists to encourage and empower people to get help quickly, because we know the sooner someone starts treatment, the greater their chance of recovery. Contact us online or by phone. We listen, we help them to understand the illness, and support them to take positive steps towards recovery. We also support family and friends, equipping them with essential skills and advice, so they can help their loved ones recover whilst also looking after their own mental health. And we campaign to increase knowledge among healthcare and other relevant professionals, and for better funding for high-quality treatment, so that when people are brave enough to take vital steps towards recovery, the right help is available to them. We partner with the NHS to provide services for those with an eating disorder, their carers - such as family and friends - and training for healthcare professionals. You can find out more about this on our Commission us page. The work we do means that every year lives are saved, families are kept together, and people are able to live free of eating disorders.
