The Complex care service consists of the rehabilitation units which is made up of a High Dependency Unit; Phoenix ward and a Community Rehabilitation Unit; Burntwood Villa. Both units deliver NHS Mental Health services across five boroughs in southwest of London and beyond as part of the South London Partnership between Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Southwest London and St-George’s NHS Trust.
Phoenix Ward is a 16-bed high dependency locked rehabilitation ward which has a focus on managing severe and complex mental disorders within the recovery model. The ward provides intensive support to those patients who present with severe and treatment resistant symptoms of mental illness, associated with multiple or severe co-morbid conditions, functional deficits, significant risk histories and inability to be maintained in the community. The ward has a total of 16 beds and all patients are detained under the Mental Health Act. Patients are admitted from acute psychiatric wards, forensic settings, as well as from the private sector. The expected length of stay is six months to a year.

Burntwood Villas is a 12 bed, step-down service, located on the periphery of Springfield Hospital site. It is comprised of two houses (1 supported, 1 semi-supported) for males and females who have progressed through acute or forensic services. Staff strive to support residents to take ownership and autonomy of their recovery through meaningful and purposeful activities, hobbies, learning, and self-development. The shared goal is to support residents back into the community - to enhance residents’ self-awareness, their confidence and communication skills, their resourcefulness and coping strategies, and their determination to achieve fulfilling and rewarding lives in the company of friends and family. The aim is to achieve successful discharge from Burntwood Villas between 6 and 18 months after admission, depending on individual need.
