Tim Runcorn Leads the Way: A Journey from L2B for Our Trust Charity

This year’s London to Brighton ride was a tremendous success. with 15 riders fundraising specifically for our Trust charity. Together, they raised an impressive £2,881 to fund essential mental health services within our community.

The funds raised by these dedicated riders will support the South West London Mental Health charity’s mission to provide additional resources and projects for mental health patients, their carers, and staff.

Leading the way across the finish line was Tim Runcorn, showing incredible dedication and spirit.

Tim shares his experiences and reflections on what made this event so memorable:

Q. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you heard about the ride?

"My sister Emily works for the Trust, so I’m well aware of some of the amazing work it does for the community. I'dA man smiling in front of a bike, wearing a helmet and medal. always wanted to do the London to Brighton ride, so when she mentioned that the Trust was offering places, I jumped at the opportunity to sign up!”

“I work as a laser scientist at Imperial College London, and truthfully, I hadn’t touched my road bike since before my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter was born. I only started riding again a few weeks before the event.”

Q. How did you find the event?

"It went much better than I’d feared, especially with my limited training! The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, sunny but not too hot, ideal for the 55-mile ride through the stunning Sussex countryside.”

“Ditchling Beacon was as challenging as expected, but the views from the top and the smooth ride into the finish line made it worth every pedal stroke."

Q. Did you receive sufficient support from the Charity in the lead-up to the event?

"Absolutely! Sarah and the team were amazing, providing top-notch cycling jerseys, setting up a fundraising page, keeping us informed with regular updates, and even being there at the start to cheer the SWLSTG team on. It genuinely felt like they were with me every step of the way."

Q. What made you choose our Trust Charity to represent?

"I know how hard everyone at the Trust works to provide critical mental health services to the community, so I wanted to do something small to support that effort. It felt great to contribute in any way I could."

Q. As the first to cross the line in one of our jerseys, would you recommend others to take on a challenge for our charity?

"Absolutely, 100%! It’s a beautiful ride and having so many members of the public cheer you along the way is just the best feeling. Plus, knowing you’re helping the Trust as you ride is the icing on the cake."

A huge thank you to all the riders who took part in this memorable event and contributed to supporting our community’s mental health services!
