A new Richmond Royal Health Centre

The Trust has also been working to refurbish its facility at the former site of Richmond Royal Hospital, part of which is being converted into residential housing.

Our facility here will become a new ‘Richmond Royal Health Centre’ and will provide a hub for local outpatient services for children and young people.

During the refurbishment phase, Richmond Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) have been based at Barnes Hospital. In April 2023 these services relocated to Livingston House in Teddington to facilitate Barnes' redevelopment. They will then relocate to the new health centre in early 2025 following its completion.

Alongside our new facility at the Barnes Hospital site, this will provide a second high-quality outpatient facility designed to meet the needs of our patients and service users in the borough of Richmond.

As part or our Better Environments programme, we are redeveloping Barnes Hospital to become a new mixed-used community made up of healthcare, housing and education, bringing our services closer to the community.

We are investing £11m to develop a new outpatient facility which will sit alongside a new Social and Emotional Mental  Health (SEMH) school, developed by LocatED, an arms-length body of the Department for Education.

We have been working with patients, carers, staff and  our wider community on the development and design of  our new facility for a number of years. Early works began in spring 2024, with construction beginning later in 2025 for delivery in 2026.

During the development there will be no disruption to local services. In 2023, all our teams previously based at Barnes relocated to temporary accommodation at Livingston House in Teddington where they will remain for the duration of the construction phase. 

Once complete, all adult community mental health services will relocate to Barnes Hospital — children and young people's  outpatient services will operate from the new Richmond Royal Health Centre form late 2024 as described below.

We will continue to work closely with our community and our neighbours throughout the build phase to support a smooth construction programme at Barnes.
