Spotlight on our volunteers

This week, as part of National Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the incredible contributions of our volunteers across the Trust. From staff and service users to carers, families and friends, we’re grateful to everyone who gives their time, skills and energy to support our work in so many valuable ways.

Today, we’re introducing Sarah, who has been supporting our communications and charity teams.

Speaking of her time in the Trust’s communications and charity teams as a volunteer, she says:

“I’ve had the opportunity to be part of two incredibly collaborative teams and to learn from people who are the very best in their fields, each of whom truly embodies the Trust’s core values.

“Being involved in the relaunch of the Trust’s Charity has been so rewarding and the perfect outlet for my creativity, and I have also received so much support, encouragement and guidance from my colleagues.”

Her contribution to the relaunch of the Charity has been invaluable, showing how volunteering can be a platform for both creative expression and meaningful impact.

“As someone with lived experience, and as an active service user, volunteering is an opportunity to not only give back to the Trust but to learn new skills and gain valuable work experience. Most volunteers gravitate to volunteering on the wards and working directly with patients, but an admin role is just as fulfilling and important. For me, volunteering has given meaning to my life and a renewed sense of purpose, which is ultimately priceless.”

Sarah’s words remind us that there are many ways to volunteer, and each one brings value. Her story is a powerful example of how volunteering can be a source of connection, purpose and growth.

Dave Moore, Head of Internal Communications and Community Engagement, shared his reflections on working with Sarah:

“Sarah has been an incredible asset as we have relaunched the Trust Charity. Her work has been consistently excellent – from writing content and producing materials to presenting and contributing to our new Trust website.

Without Sarah, our Charity would not be in the strong position it is today. I’ve learned a lot from her, and we’re all so proud of what she’s helped us achieve.”

Thank you, Sarah, and thank you to all our volunteers who bring energy, commitment, and heart to everything you do. We are truly grateful!
