Crisis text service expands with new SMS option

Person texting

People across south London can now access 24/7 mental health crisis support by text message, following the expansion of the South London NHS Mental Health Crisis Text Service.

The service, delivered by Everyturn Mental Health, has introduced a new SMS option, making it even easier for people to reach out for support.

People of all ages can now text 80991 to connect with a trained mental health advisor, who can provide free, confidential and compassionate support.

The new SMS option builds on the WhatsApp service launched earlier this year. People can continue to access support by sending a WhatsApp message using this link or by messaging 0303 330 1511.

The service provides an alternative for people who may prefer messaging to a telephone call and is available to people of all ages, as well as family members, carers and loved ones concerned about someone’s wellbeing.

Mental health advisors can support with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, low mood, substance use and financial stress, or simply provide advice about mental health and wellbeing.

How to get support

The South London NHS Mental Health Crisis Text Service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

You can:

  • Text 80991
  • Send a WhatsApp message using this link or by messaging 0303 330 1511.

If you would prefer to speak to someone, you can call NHS 111 and select the mental health option.
