Support following disorder across the UK
We have been shocked by the unrest which has been taking place across the country over the past week.
The suffering experienced by the people of Southport, along with others affected by the violence there, is unimaginable. This tragedy has impacted many individuals, from those grieving the loss of the young children to the staff who provided treatment and support to the victims and their families.
The violent riots driven by far-right extremism are deeply deplorable. Many of you have likely seen or heard about the distressing events that occurred in various towns and cities over the weekend. At South West London and St George’s, we wholeheartedly condemn these harmful and deliberate acts of racism and violence.
Our Trust is committed to being an actively anti-racist organisation which challenges racist behaviours and works against racial prejudice. Our Trust values – respectful, open, compassionate, collaborative, and consistent – are at the heart of everything we do and are the foundation of our anti-racist values, statements that put our core values into action against racism:
- We are respectful of our differences and celebrate our diversity
- We recognise that racism exists and openly call it out
- We collaborate and listen to people who aren’t often heard
- We are compassionate and believe people’s experience of racism
- We consistently role model anti-racist behaviours
Racism has a profound impact not only on individuals, but on our organisation and the communities that we serve. Just being ‘not-racist’ isn’t good enough – we need to be active in our anti-racism. Racism stops here and we are asking that we all be part of the solution.
We recognise the value of our diversity and the strength it brings us. We are extremely proud to celebrate the differences amongst our staff, patients and communities – and the importance of bringing your whole self to work or care.
What is happening in local communities will affect many of us and we want to support our local community with any help they may need at this time.
