Our Crisis Line offers round-the-clock support to anyone experiencing urgent mental health challenges. Open to both children and adults, it ensures help is available 24/7, every day of the year.
We recently spoke with Abura, a Crisis Assessment Practitioner, to learn more about his role and the vital work he and his team do to support people in crisis.
Abura’s role involves working closely with colleagues, patients and families to understand what support is needed in each situation. This includes assessing urgency, offering advice and reassurance, and coordinating care so people receive the right support at the right time. During particularly busy periods, Abura also supports the Mental Health Crisis Line, “ensuring that every caller receives timely and effective support.”
Abura shares:
The most rewarding part of my work is seeing the positive impact it has on individuals and their families. Knowing that I have helped someone find a path to stability and recovery is incredibly gratifying. Each success story reinforces the importance of our work and motivates me to continue providing compassionate care.
The team provides immediate crisis support, mental health assessments, risk evaluation and safety planning, alongside emotional guidance. They also connect people with ongoing care and community services, ensuring everyone receives the support they need.
For anyone thinking about reaching out, Abura offers clear reassurance:
"I would encourage anyone in need to reach out without hesitation. The Crisis Line is here to provide support, no matter how big or small the issue may seem. It’s important to remember that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. We are here to listen, support, and guide you through whatever challenges you are facing. Don’t hesitate to take that first step towards getting the help you need."
