Staff at South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust were given an exclusive first look inside Tala building, our new space at Tolworth Hospital.
Eight months after breaking ground, the visit marked an exciting next step in our £110m redevelopment at Tolworth, which will create five new state-of-the-art wards.
Staff visiting were able to see the huge progress already made, including the layout of wards and rooms, the number of courtyards gardens and the spaces planned for staff and wider community.
Watch the video to hear from Sarah, Justine, Ursula, and Indie on what they thought of the our new Tala building.
Talking about the visit, Sarah Adams, Clinical and Operational Delivery Lead for Better Environments said: "It's amazing to be able to show people what has evolved from conception, which is where a lot of people were involved in the initial design for Tolworth, through to where you can actually start seeing those things appear in real life. So things like our courtyard gardens, which allow all our patients in our new building to have access to outside space, see our new bedrooms starting to form and really kind of see how ideas are turning into something very tangible and very real that will benefit our patients and our staff for many years to come."
Our Better Environments Programme is developing a bold new landscape for local mental health services that opens up our hospital sites to the community, breaks down mental health stigma, and brings our services closer to the people we serve. Find out more about our plans for Tolworth.
