Artificial Intelligence (AI) SWLSTG strategy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming how healthcare is delivered across the NHS. At its core, AI is a set of tools designed to support people, not replace them.

It can help NHS staff do their jobs more effectively by automating repetitive tasks, improving access to information, and enabling faster, more accurate decision-making.

This means more time for compassionate, person-centred care and less time spent on administrative burden. For mental health services, AI offers promise from supporting earlier diagnosis and personalised treatment to reducing staff burnout and improving operational efficiency.

However, these benefits must be realised safely, ethically, and equitably.

This AI Strategy sets out South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust’s approach to adopting AI in a way that enhances care, empowers staff, and builds public trust. It aligns with our Digital Strategy, the South West London ICS Digital Strategy, and the One London AI Framework. It has been ratified by the Trust’s Executive Leadership Team and is shared openly in the public interest.
