Laura Cavina scooped the silver award in the Operational Support Worker of the Year category at the Skills for Health Our Health Heroes Awards.

Occupational therapist Laura is credited with transforming our volunteer programme alongside doing her day job.

Congratulating Laura on her achievement, Amanda Cummins, Deputy Head of Coproduction and Involvement at South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, said:

“Laura is an outstanding staff member who over the past two and a half years has consistently promoted and developed the Trust’s ability to recruit, train, support and raise the profile of volunteers,”

“She is a person who goes the extra mile for colleagues and epitomises the term "team player", consistently contributing to areas outside her remit when needed, despite frequently facing very high demands within her own role.

“Laura’s kindness and thoughtfulness are very much appreciated by those who work alongside her, and she is frequently cited as being a very positive influence to everyone who has the pleasure of working with her.

“I am over the moon for Laura that her hard work is being recognised and that she has won this prestigious national award.”

Sara Gorton, Head of Health at UNISON, who sponsored the award said:

“Congratulations to the brilliant finalists and winner of this award. UNISON is incredibly proud to sponsor it again. The dedication, expertise and hard work of all NHS employees should never be taken for granted. This award recognises the importance of the jobs and individuals who keep us safe and informed and supported when we are at our most vulnerable. The care and compassion of receptionists, cleaners, porters, security staff and all the other unsung heroes in the NHS family really makes a difference to patients, families and other health workers.”

Congratulations Laura!
