Trust shortlisted for the 2023 HSJ Patient Safety Awards
We are being recognised for our work using a digital advice and guidance system to improve the physical healthcare and experience of patients with mental illness. The system enables our clinicians to confer with local acute hospital colleagues for specialist physical health advice and support.
More than 500 entries were submitted to the HSJ Patient Safety Awards, and we are proud to be amongst the 209 organisations, projects and individuals that have made it to the final shortlist.
Daryl Desmond, Consultant Nurse in Physical Health at SWLSTG, said: “Digital advice and guidance has been invaluable for providing rapid access to the specialist advice and support needed to care for patients with multiple complex health conditions. The system is already helping us to reduce referrals and we are excited about its potential.
“We hope that our work will demonstrate how other mental health organisations can use the same or similar systems to improve the care and experience of patients who may not engage or have access to primary healthcare.”
Dr Billy Boland, Executive Medical Director at SWLSTG, said: “This is such exciting news – and, as busy healthcare professionals, we never underestimate the impact and positive ‘boost’ that being shortlisted for an award can bring to our wider team and colleagues.
“We are delighted that our hard work and commitment to improving patient care and reducing the physical healthcare inequalities experienced by people with mental illness has been recognised on this prestigious shortlist.”
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Manchester on 18 September 2023.
