Preceptorship programme awarded two quality marks

The National Preceptorship Interim Quality Mark and Capital Nurse Preceptorship Quality Mark.

We are delighted to announce that our preceptorship programme has been awarded the National Preceptorship Interim Quality Mark and Capital Nurse Preceptorship Quality Mark.

Delivered by the Trust’s Nursing Development Team, our preceptorship programme helps to ensure newly qualified nurses have an excellent start and experience of joining us.

The National Preceptorship Interim Quality Mark is the national gold standard and was created in October 2022 when NHS England introduced the new national preceptorship framework for nursing, which NHS trusts now use to benchmark themselves against. The Capital Nurse Preceptorship Quality Mark is an established standard that all NHS trusts in London have agreed to.

Commenting on the award, Ellie Stevenson, Senior Development Nurse in the Nursing Development Team, said: “We’re very proud to have been awarded both quality marks. Preceptorship is a really important part of the onboarding experience, and these awards truly reflect our fantastic preceptorship offer here at SWLSTG.

“Our programme stands out for being flexible and responsive. We’re always open to new ideas and the programme changes every year following feedback and to ensure relevance to current practice. Our goal is to ensure our new nurses really enjoy and feel supported during those important first years so that they can flourish and make the vital contribution for which they trained.”

Sandra Okoye-Adelaja, who joined the Trust as a newly qualified nurse in December 2022, said: The preceptorship programme here is really well organised and structured to set you up to progress within the Trust. It’s given me the confidence to put my knowledge into everyday practice and without it, I don’t think I would have settled in and progressed as quickly as I have.

“Right from the start I felt really well by the Nursing Development Team who were always on hand to give advice and help resolve any issues. I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in which sessions were delivered and how everyone was made to feel welcome and valued. We were regularly asked how we felt and invited to share feedback.”
