Fircroft Primary School celebrates Mental Health Awareness Week

This year the theme is ‘movement’ – and what better way to embrace the theme by taking a walk in the stunning new park. A bespoke map with an array of animals, plants and activity points was created for the children, who really enjoyed reflecting on how important access to outside space is for our mental and physical health.

As well as ticking off items on the map, we also had time for a healthy snack and a drink and a quick Q&A session with Head Gardener Mark Knibbs.

On of the children said:

There was lots of space. I really liked the wildflowers and using the map to look around.

The first 19 acres of Springfield Park opened to the public in summer 2023. The remaining areas, which will continue to open between now and 2027, will feature a pavilion café, an amphitheatre, youth shelter, further play and exercise areas, a sensory garden and much more. You can find out more and download the park maps here.

The park is a major component of Springfield Village, consisting of Trinity and Shaftesbury Hospital buildings, Chapel Square surrounded by the new Wellspring Restaurant and Energie Gym and 800 new homes.

This is the latest in a host of collaborations with Fircroft Primary School following a tour of the hospital, a tree and flower planting event and Christmas Carols on Chapel Square.
