Corner House reopening at Springfield University Hospital

The Trust’s specialist facility for children and young people who are Deaf, Corner House at Springfield University Hospital, has reopened.

Corner House is the Trust’s national Deaf CAMHS inpatient service which provides vital care and treatment to Deaf children and young people with complex mental health difficulties.

Following a review and consultation, the service now offers a wider range of assessment and treatment options, including a 24/5 inpatient pathway, open Sunday evening to Friday afternoon. This means we can support and meet the different needs of more children and young people than before.

The service is now focusing on providing goal-based treatment plans that promote recovery, reduce time spent in hospital, and support young people to return home with the support of their families, carers and local Deaf CAMHS teams.

Corner House staff will work collaboratively with local Deaf CAMHS teams to support young people to transition back to their local areas with individualised plans that will help them to maintain and progress their recovery at home.

Throughout the review period, we have been collaborating with our partners, families, carers and the wider national Deaf CAMHS community, to develop the best way of providing inpatient mental healthcare to Deaf children and young people. Together we have redeveloped how the service is run and accessed, ensuring it meets the needs of those we care for.

We are very grateful to these partners, families, carers and the wider CAMHS community for their time, support and commitment to working with us to review and develop Corner House, and would like to sincerely thank them for working with us to redevelop this service.
