Bluebell Ward celebrates Disability History Month with inspiring Deaf rave DJ workshop

There was music, movement and plenty of smiles at Trinity as our amazing Bluebell Ward team once again welcomed the incredible Deaf Rave for a DJ Workshop Taster Session, an especially meaningful moment as we mark Disability History Month.

The workshop brought together patients and staff from Bluebell Ward, along with colleagues from across the Trust, for another unforgettable afternoon. With haptic vests allowing everyone to feel the rhythm, the room was alive with energy, connection and a few joyful tears. It was wonderful to see so many people getting involved, dancing, laughing and expressing themselves through sound, vibration and shared experience.

A huge thank you to MC Geezer and DJ Jeffo for returning to Trinity and sharing their passion with us once again.

As part of Disability History Month, this event highlights the importance of accessibility and the richness of Deaf culture. It challenges stigma around deaf mental health and reinforces the message that being deaf is no barrier to creativity, confidence or success. As Deaf Rave remind us every time they visit: music is for everyone.

Amanda Bain, Occupational Therapist, shares:

"Having Deaf Rave back on the ward during Disability History Month felt incredibly special. The workshop created a space where patients could express themselves freely, connect with others and experience music in a way that felt truly inclusive. Moments like this show how powerful it can be when we remove barriers and celebrate different ways of experiencing the world."

Patients described the session as “loved it,” praising the mix of sound and vibration, with others sharing how the music “went down then up,” how the rhythms “started subtle then got deeper and heavy,” and how the “boom boom boom” of the beat even “made me dream.”
