Better Care: New animation highlights transformed support and access
As a leading mental health Trust, we have to adapt to make sure we continue to provide high-quality care to communities across South West London. Our Better Care programme is transforming our local NHS and enhancing support in the community so there is no wrong door into local mental health services - the right care, at the right time, in the right place.

In line with the NHS Long Term Plan and the NHS Community Mental Health Framework, Better Care is focused on transforming local mental health services to support people to get help early, recover, and stay well in the community, closer to their friends and families.
This includes the transformation of our adult community mental health services. Today, a new animation has been launched to explain how these services are changing across South West London to deliver a wider range of support and a better experience for patients and service users.
Thanks to collaborations with local voluntary organisations and partners we are now offering a wider range of therapies and treatments, physical health care, peer and carer support, as well as advice and support with housing, employment, finances and social welfare. With a significant expansion of our workforce across these services, we also hope to see more people accessing help more quickly and reduced waiting times for evidence-based treatments in the long-term.
This support is now in place across our adult community mental health services in Sutton, Kingston and Richmond, with roll-out in Merton and Wandsworth scheduled for spring 2024.
Victoria Hill, the Trust’s Clinical Director of Community Services and Consultant Clinical Psychologist said: “We want to deliver the best possible clinical services, that help people with mental health conditions live well and stay well in the community – the right care, at the right time, in the right place.
This new animation has been co-produced with service users and those with lived experience of a mental health condition to guide this work and we are very excited to be launching it today. It showcases how by working in a more integrated way, we can deliver care that is joined-up and better meets the needs of individuals as well as their local communities.
