Early works will soon begin as we prepare for the redevelopment of the Barnes Hospital site. This will include creating a new facility for local community mental health services and a new school.
As we begin this journey, we are inviting our community to join the development partners at a face-to-face engagement event at Mortlake Hall in Richmond on the evening of Monday 4 March from 6:30 – 7:30 PM.
This will provide updates on the upcoming schedule of works and an opportunity for members of the community to take part in a Q&A session with the development partners.

Health and education for Barnes
South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust is investing to develop a new outpatient facility which will sit alongside the London River Academy, a new specialist education needs school operated by the Beckmead Trust. This is being developed by LocatED, an arms-length-body of the Department for Education.
The master developer leading the construction of the school and healthcare facility is Willmott Dixon, a firm with significant experience across both the health and education sectors.
A residential development has also been proposed for the remaining half of the Barnes site and is currently awaiting planning determination by Richmond Council.
During the development phase there will be no disruption to local mental health services. All the Trust's teams previously based at Barnes relocated to temporary accommodation at the Trust's Livingston House site in Teddington in 2023 and will remain there until works are complete.
