Trust receives Veteran Aware Accreditation, days before Armistice Day
Armistice Day, observed on the 11 November, commemorates, and celebrates the legacy of the members of the armed forces who lost their lives during both World Wars. The day has now evolved to encompass all military personnel who sacrificed their lives in subsequent conflicts.
Here at SWLSTG we stand committed to supporting veterans and the armed forces community, and we are delighted to announce that we have now obtained our Veteran Aware Accreditation. This accreditation from the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA) recognises our commitment to driving improvements in care for veterans, reservists, members of the armed forces and their families, as well as supporting the armed forces as an employer.
Being designated as a veteran in your NHS medical records ensures that you get access to specialised veterans' health services, covering mental health, hearing loss, limb amputation, and wheelchair support. Priority access to NHS care for service-related conditions is always subject to clinical need.
Our commitment involves staff training, awareness initiatives for veterans and their families, and support for the armed forces as an employer.
Vanessa Ford, The Trust Chief Executive, said:
I would like to personally add that I am very proud of Trust for the work and focus to obtain Veteran Aware Status, especially at this time of year when we take time to remember and commemorate our veterans and wider armed forces community.
