Trust host Wandsworth Chamber of Commerce as part of World Mental Health Day celebrations

People sat in a room at tables speaking with each other, the screen at the front reads 'Wandsworth Chamber of Commerce'.

Our Trust was delighted to host members of the Wandsworth Chamber of Commerce as part of World Mental Health Day celebrations.

The theme this year was ‘Workplace Mental Health’, so we were thrilled to be able to share top tips for looking after your mental health, as well as showcasing the work of our Employment Specialists with a range of employers from Wandsworth.

Better Communities Director Ian Garlington said ‘Working in partnership with employers across Wandsworth is vital to creating mental health aware communities and enabling our boroughs to look after themselves and their colleagues’ mental health. I am thrilled that a number of the attendees have signed up to our Mental Health First Aid training and I’m looking forward to working with the Chamber to cultivate a mental health support network.’

We know that good employment has a positive impact on mental health. Conversely, poor employment lead’s to, or exacerbate, depression and anxiety. Therefore since 2014, we have offered employment advice as a core part of our NHS Talking Therapies service.

The Employment Service provides up to 100 days of support tailored to individual employment needs. They work with both the individual and the employer, including help and support around finding work, returning to work and job retention. The flexible one-to-one support can be delivered in person, over the telephone or online along side therapy or whilst patients are on waiting list. You can find out more about the service here.

A spokesperson for Wandsworth Chamber of Commerce said:

“Wandsworth Chamber are pleased to have South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust as a Patron member. It was great to bring together a variety of our members and visitors for a session on Mental Health in the Workplace, a topic that is so important and there were some very valuable takeaways.”

A key question from our members was “how do we educate ourselves to be more mental health aware?” and we are thrilled to work with the Trust to give our members this training. As well as hosting the chamber, the Trust launched an innovative bench signs campaign in the new Springfield Park and well as hosting two community events with local schools.
