This week (13–17 April), the Recovery College is hosting an art exhibition featuring the work of Owen Reilly, a peer trainer at the college.
The exhibition showcases artwork created by Owen over the past 20 years, offering a unique insight into his personal journey of creativity, growth and self-discovery.
Speaking at the launch, Owen shared how art has always been his way of expressing himself. From a young age, he found comfort and focus in drawing, which helped him develop his skills and communicate his thoughts and feelings. Today, his work reflects themes of resilience, hope and the ongoing journey of recovery.
Owen joined the Recovery College as a student in 2015 and has since become a peer trainer. In his role, he supports others by sharing his lived experience, aiming to inspire people and help them imagine what recovery could look like for them.
Owen says what he values most about the Recovery College is its flexible and person-centred approach:
“There’s no right or wrong way to support someone in their recovery journey.” This reflects the college’s commitment to recognising each individual’s unique experiences and personal path to recovery.
The exhibition is open throughout the week, and everyone is welcome to drop in at a time that suits them. The artwork will remain on display for several weeks afterwards, so if you’re unable to attend this week, there will still be plenty of opportunity to visit!
