The Government has published the new NHS Oversight Framework, which sets out how NHS trusts are performing across a range of measures.
These measures include finances, patient and staff experience, and performance indicators such as discharge and crisis response. Based on the results, each trust has been placed into one of four core segments, with segment one being the strongest performers and segment four being more challenged. There is also a fifth segment for the most challenged trusts nationally.
Our Trust has been placed in segment three, alongside the majority of other London mental health trusts.
Two main factors have influenced this position:
Through the Adult Patient Journey programme, we are working to ensure patients do not remain in hospital longer than clinically necessary and reduce length of stay, and to transform Coral and our crisis pathway - both are in the best interests of patients. Over the past six months, we have made significant progress in reducing length of stay - particularly very long stays - and we know more needs to be done. We are also working closely with patients, carers and our health and care partners to redesign the crisis pathway so that people needing urgent mental health support receive expert care as quickly and effectively as possible.
This result is not where we want to be, and it does not reflect the hard work and dedication of our staff and services. However, we are confident that by focusing our efforts in these key areas, we will improve our position. Quality of care, and ensuring inclusive experiences for both staff and patients, remain at the heart of all we do.
