The National Deaf CAMHS Outpatients Team has been nominated for the Claire Campbell Outstanding Achievement Award, in recognition of their dedication to providing specialist, compassionate care for young people and their families.

The team provides specialist mental health support tailored to the unique needs of deaf children and young people. They work closely with families through every stage of diagnosis, treatment and recovery, offering support with school visits, assessments, and annual reviews. Their commitment goes far beyond clinical care, providing guidance and support for deaf and neurodivergent children, and ensuring every young person receives care that is accessible and inclusive.

A parent who nominated the team shared:

“The whole team are kind, caring, genuine, empathetic, supportive, great listeners and hardworking. Harriet is also a fabulous role model for so many. As a deaf person she is a perfect example of how deaf people can achieve and have rewarding careers.”

Harriet and her colleagues take pride in their pro-deaf approach, celebrating deaf culture, the richness of British Sign Language (BSL), and all forms of communication. Their focus is on empowering young people to explore and achieve their full potential within a world that recognises and respects their deaf identity.

Responding to the nomination, the team said:

“The National Deaf CAMHS London Outpatients Team is incredibly honoured to be nominated for the Claire Campbell Outstanding Achievement Award. This nomination is a wonderful affirmation of our commitment to deaf children, young people and their families.

We believe in celebrating deaf culture, the richness of British Sign Language, and the importance of accessible, inclusive care. Our goal is to empower young people to thrive and to feel proud of who they are.”

We warmly congratulate Harriet Rice and the National Deaf CAMHS Outpatients Team on this well-deserved nomination, and thank them for their compassion, expertise and continued commitment to improving the lives of deaf children, young people and their families.
