MindMeds: Your medication and wellbeing app – Q&A with Pharmacist Henry

A man looking in the camera, smiling confidently.

In celebration of Ask Your Pharmacist Week (4-11 November), we caught up with Henry, our Advanced Specialist Mental Health Pharmacist, to discuss MindMeds – a free smartphone app developed by our pharmacy team in partnership with individuals from our lived experience network.

MindMeds is designed to empower our service users to manage their medications and monitor their health and wellbeing, all in one easy-to-use app. Here, Henry shares his insights into the app’s features and how it can support your recovery.

  Q. Can you tell us more about the MindMeds app and its main purpose?

“The MindMeds app, developed by our pharmacy team together with technology company Healthinnova, is here to help our service users and their carers manage medications with ease. The app’s main goal is to support users in staying on track with their medication routines while promoting overall health and wellbeing.”

  Q.  Why is it important to keep a record of the medications you’re taking?

"Managing medication can be challenging, especially when it involves complex treatment plans for both mental and physical health medications from different services. Keeping all prescribed medications in one place makes things easier for service users, carers, and clinicians - especially during reviews."

  Q. Beyond medication tracking, what other features does the app offer?

The MindMeds app has a variety of useful features to make managing your health easier, including:

  • Logging and monitoring medical test results
  • Appointment reminders
  • Health-related questionnaires e.g. for tracking side effects
  • Mood and sleep diaries
  • Easy access to information on medicine.

With the sharing feature, the app helps you stay connected with your healthcare team, making it easy to share important information that supports decisions about your care and treatment.

  Q. Is the app free to use, and how user-friendly is it?

“The MindMeds app is completely free to download from both the Android and Apple stores, and it’s available to all patients who are prescribed medication as part of their care plans. We’ve designed and tested it with input from our service users, ensuring that it’s user-friendly and gives you complete control over what you share and when!”

Q. If I have any questions or need help with the app, who can I contact?

“If you have any questions or need support, feel free to reach out to us by calling our Medicines Helpline on 020 3513 6829. The helpline is open Monday to Friday, from 9am-5pm. Outside of these hours, please leave a message and the team will call you back. You can also email the helpline on  medinfo@swlstg.nhs.uk . We're here to help!”
